In chapters 9, 10, and 11 talked about the classroom environment and different learning strategies and tactics to use as teachers. I learn about concept mapping and it wasn't my favorite strategy. To decide on which learning strategy best fits your students, teachers should find out the learning style for each student. One example the book mentions is KWL charts that help metacognitive development (pg.342). KWL charts help students write down what they know, what they want to and what they learned. I have used a KWL chart in the past and I find it very helpful because it allows students to deeper think on what they are learning. In chapter 10 it talks about collaboration and cooperation. Both of these topics are important for students to understand because in today's economy students are expected to collaborate with others. Employers expect employees to work on projects with people you may or may not like. In my experience with students is that teachers should prepare students to work in groups for projects as early as elementary. I have experienced that many middle school and freshman students in high school do not know how to work in groups and meet specific deadlines. In chapter 11 it talks about emotions students face. Emotions can impact student performance at school and personal lives. As teachers, we must be prepared to find and offer resources to students who are facing any time of emotions. Knowing how to deal with emotions with help us have better classroom management since it can impact the atmosphere of a classroom.
